Divya Delhi: Due to two T20 international matches against South Africa that Cricket Australia has scheduled in August, following a 17-year break. Before South Africa starts their limited-overs matches, which feature three T20Is and three ODIs, the approval procedure for the tour program is anticipated to be completed this month. The sporting event is expected to begin with two T20 International matches in Darwin, followed by a T20 International and an ODI in Cairns, which would end with two more matches at Mackay. When top-tier cricket makes a big return to the Northern Territory, the local fan base becomes even more excited. After a 17-year break, Darwin will host its first event once the confirmed calendar for international cricket matches at TIO Stadium is finalized. If the Northern Territory is able to arrange international matches for its cricket venues, this step would mark a significant sports milestone. Since joining in 2023, NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey has stated that the organization is still confident in bringing international cricket back to the Northern Territory. In 2008, after an unforgivably long absence, Australian international cricket vanished from the Northern Territory. Darwin would host its first men's T20I cricket matches and become Australia's 107th cricket venue, making the return of international cricket to the Northern Territory a momentous occasion. There have been 536 men's and women's matches in the area at 27 different Australian sites since Darwin hosted games in 2008. BBL teams and international clubs currently play in the Top End T20 competition, which has given the area international notoriety. Darwin has a “incredible winter cricket window that generates excessive benefits.” By drawing international cricket, the region will reach a major milestone, according to NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey.
