Divya Delhi: The Indian government expressed concern at the alleged demolition of Satyajit Ray's ancestral home in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, and offered to help restore it.“We note with profound regret that the ancestral property of noted filmmaker and litterateur Satyajit Ray in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, belonging to his grandfather and eminent litterateur, Upendra Kishor Ray Chowdhury, is being demolished,” the Ministry of External Affairs The Ministry of External Affairs announced India would work with Bangladesh to repair and rebuild Satyajit Ray's ancestral property.The ministry added that “the property, presently owned by the Government of Bangladesh, is in a state of disrepair.” India stressed the property's cultural significance and sought reconsideration of the demolition proposal. “Given the building's landmark status, symbolizing Bangla cultural renaissance, it would be preferable to reconsider the demolition and examine options for its repair and reconstruction as a literature museum and symbol of India and Bangladesh's shared culture,” the ministry stated.
