Divya Delhi: US President Donald Trump has two weeks to decide on the Israel-Iran war. The White House is considering whether to attack Iran alongside Israel or negotiate a peace deal. Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Iranian missile assaults have put the US in a difficult foreign policy position. Trump is under pressure to defend Israel militarily or deescalate the issue through diplomacy. We examine the variables that may affect Trump's decision and recent events that may pressure him to take the US stand. The conflict began when Israel unexpectedly attacked Iran's nuclear facilities, military bases, and officials, including scientists. The strike murdered nuclear experts and military leaders. Iran replied with missile barrages, including a hit on a major Israeli hospital, killing over 200 Iranians and at least 24 Israelis. Israel wants to destroy Iran's nuclear program, especially the fortified Fordow enrichment complex, which it considers an existential threat. According to sources, Israel lacks the means to destroy the Fordow location, which is 100 meters underground near Qom. Netanyahu and his staff want the U.S. to go beyond defense. He alone can stop Iran's nuclear program, they believe, therefore Trump should join the attack.
