Divya Delhi: Will the Narendra Modi government soon prioritize job growth, education, and skill development in the Union Budget 2025? According to the Economic Survey 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may prioritize consumption, education, jobs, and AI over government meddling in the economy. The panel lead by Chief Economic Adviser V Ananth Nageswaran advised the government to boldly restructure the Indian economy and develop a sustainable growth strategy. bDespite India's claim of being the world's third largest economy, the Economic Survey couldn't anticipate a higher growth rate after FY 2024-25's 6.4%. So, it predicts 6.3% to 6.8% growth. The Economic Survey comes as GDP growth has dropped from 8.2% in FY 2023-24 to 6.4% in FY 2024-25, a four-year low. Considering this irony, the Chief Economic Adviser's team encouraged the government to let the economy repair itself. According to the Economic Survey 2025, Nirmala Sitharaman may expand infrastructure, skill, startup, and MSME funding to create more jobs. The Economic Survey suggests creating 78.5 lakh non-farm jobs annually until 2030-32. The government is anticipated to raise education and skill development budgets to achieve 100% literacy and improve education institutions. The survey clearly states that the government must build high-quality, future-ready infrastructure. Following Nirmala Sitharaman's Union Budget 2024-25 allocation of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, jobs, and skills, she will likely enhance it. The aim is to be met by 2032, so the sum is spread over many years and may not be significant for FY 2025-26. As the Economic Survey suggests, the finance minister will likely raise MNREGA budgets to create additional jobs. The 2025-25 budget under Nirmala Sitharaman allotted Rs 86,000 crore for MNREGA. The allocation was 14% lower than FY 2023-24. The Finance Minister will likely enhance renewable energy allocation and offer concessions to green energy, hydrogen, solar, and EV workers. She may grant solar panel incentives and ban Chinese imports. The Economic Survey has advocated for a balanced energy transition, encouraging electric mobility and public transport while addressing the need for skilling and education to use AI. According to the Economic Survey, the government may introduce new PLI policies for certain sectors. The Nagesaran team has asked to address restrictive trade policies and their impact on India, demonstrating the Production-Linked Incentive Scheme's success.
