Divya Delhi:  Shocking news of a Maharashtrian student's US accident is gripping the nation. Her family endured terrible visa delays to visit her in a coma. Satara native 35-year-old Neelam Shinde was allegedly hit by a four-wheeler in California over 10 days ago and has been in a coma since. The family of Neelam today received a visa from the US Embassy after several days of urgent petitions. It appears the family will board the next flight to the US today. After four years in the US, Neelam Shinde is a final-year MS student at California State University. She is reportedly in a coma at Sacramento's UC Davis Medical Center after being hit by a car while walking. Doctors suspect her coma was caused by serious chest, arm, leg, and head traumas. The family said a hit-and-run driver hit the Satara native from behind, causing catastrophic injuries. Her family frantically sought a US visa to join her. They waited nearly a week for their request. The MEA helped the US grant an emergency visa. The MEA has contacted the US, according to a report. The US is pursuing early family visa grant formalities. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule raised the issue. “Student Neelam Shinde has met with an accident in the USA and is hospitalized in a local hospital,” she said on X. “Her father, Tanaji Shinde, from Satara, Maharashtra, India, needs to visit his daughter urgently for medical reasons. Tanaji Shinde needs help getting an urgent US visa, Sule stated. Neelam Shinde's family learned about the accident two days later on They have been seeking US visas since. newspaper quoted Neelam's father Tanaji Shinde as stating, "We learned about the disaster and have been applying for visas since then. We don't have it yet."Family says they last spoke to daughter  two days before her awful accident put her in a coma.
