Divya Delhi:Who Is Manoj Kumar Verma? New Kolkata Police Commissioner Replacing Vineet Goyal.The West Bengal government named senior IPS officer Manoj Kumar Verma Kolkata Police Commissioner on Tuesday, succeeding Vineet Kumar Goyal. Goyal was reassigned as Special Task Force ADG, therefore Verma takes command. Goyal was fired after intensive criticism of his conduct of the RG Kar Hospital junior doctor rape and murder case. The leadership changes came a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee removed key police and health officials, including Goyal, to address protesting physicians and break the standoff. Rajasthan-born IPS officer Manoj Kumar Verma joined the service in 1998. His previous positions were ADG and Inspector General of Police (Law & Order). IGP of Darjeeling and Superintendent of Police in West Midnapore were among his notable posts.
