Divya Delhi: Star salaries aside, Hindi film producers are struggling with star-demands like numerous vanity vans, a gym on location, petrol money for transportation, star-selected food, and crew meals.Producer-director Rajiv Rai says, That's just beginning. I've heard Gen-z stars demand cuisine of their choice and take it home for their families. Note that some stars charge 40–100 crores. Despite working with top stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand, and Hema Malini, my father, Gulshan Rai, never faced such scrutiny. Demands outside contact never occurred. Average producers today pay celebs' laundry expenses. Stars treat producers like money bags to be drained at every expense. Finally, the producer gets empty theaters.”For this reason, Rajiv Rai ceased making films for 24 years. I returned to Zora with new faces, but War 2 overwhelmed it a few days later. How did that go? My case is over.”Producer-director Suneel Darshan says, “A vanity van for the artist is essential for convenience. Beyond that is showing off complexes, egos, and extravagances at others' expense.”Veteran director Sudhir Mishra blames producers for rising star expectations. I think a vanity van is helpful in places without changing rooms or toilets. Women should have their own van and not use male restrooms.
