Divya Delhi: Day after his administration mediated a truce between the two nuclear-armed adversaries, Pakistan and India, Trump has promised to collaborate with them to find a "solution" for the long-disputed Kashmir area. On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, "I will work with you, both to see if, after a 'thousand years' a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir." The president of the United States has reiterated the false claim that the conflict between Pakistan and India dates back "a thousand years" or more. Since the partition of British India into Pakistan and India in 1947, the territory with a Muslim majority has been a contentious one. The area has been the site of three conflicts between the two nations. They both claim Kashmir in its entirety but only have partial authority over it. For decades, people in Kashmir, which is ruled by India, have rebelled violently, seeking either independence or a union with Pakistan. To put down the uprising, has sent over 700,000 soldiers.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration has stuck to its long-standing stance of rejecting international mediation as a means to resolve the Kashmir conflict. Even more alienating to the Kashmiris was Modi's 2019 decision to remove the semiautonomy of Indian-administered Kashmir.
