Divya Delhi: Brigadier General Effie Defrin, Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Spokesperson, told The Jerusalem Post on Friday that Israel had been “left with no choice” but to strike Iran's nuclear and missile programs. Defrin said Israel has tried to stop Iran's nuclear and missile programs “behind the scenes.” Israel acted because intelligence indicated that Iran had enough nuclear material to make multiple bombs and was increasing missile production to 8,000 within two years. The Jerusalem Post reported that the first surprise hit targeted scores of senior military commanders, 11 nuclear scientists, and various development facilities. The Israel Air Force (IAF) struck radar arrays, launch facilities, and production centers, giving Israel air superiority over western Iran within hours. The surprise effort avoided a broader Iranian retaliation, according to Defrin. The 12-day assault targeted Iran's nuclear enrichment and missile development infrastructure. He noted that US and Israeli assaults on Fordow and Natanz stopped Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon “at this time.”
