Divya Delhi :Harpreet Singh, an irrigation ICAS official, was shot dead in public on Saturday afternoon at Chandigarh district courts. His father-in-law, suspended Punjab police assistant inspector general Malwinder Singh Sidhu, reportedly murdered Harpreet. Sidhu was arrested. Harpreet had gone to district court to settle his divorce with his wife. Police said this was the third mediation hearing. Both families attended mediation at the district court. Malwinder Singh asked Harpreet to show him the washroom during the session. Shortly after, Malwinder reportedly shot Harpreet again, knocking him down. Videos of Harpreet's family pleading for aid went viral as onlookers gathered. Harpreet died undergoing treatment at the government hospital in sector 16 after family members and advocates drove him there.Last November, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau charged Malwinder Singh Sidhu, then Assistant Inspector General of the Punjab Police Human Rights Cell, with exploiting his position, fraud, blackmail, extortion, and bribery from government workers.
