Divya Delhi:Sebastian Coe is one of seven candidates vying to become the next IOC chief after Thomas Bach.Of the seven contenders who announced their candidacies on Monday for the position of International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach, Sebastian Coe, the head of World Athletics, has the most profile. Coe will have fierce competition from people like cycling leader David Lappartient and Kirsty Coventry, who is vying to become the first African woman to lead the IOC.The IOC Session in Athens, which takes place from March 18–21 of the following year, will host the election. Bach,70, is stepping down from his position of 12 years. At the conclusion of the Paris Games, the German said he would not be running for office again. The other four contenders are Prince Faisal al-Hussein of Jordan and Morinari Watanabe, the head of gymnastics, both of whom are from Asia, a region that has never had an IOC president.The remaining contenders are ski federation president Johan Eliasch and Juan Antonio Samaranch Junior, whose father of the same name led the IOC from 1980 to 2001 and turned it into a commercial powerhouse.
