  RBI DG Poonam Gupta appointed as head of NCAER

  Divya Delhi:  we have Poonam Gupta, who has been appointed as the fourth woman deputy governor (DG) of the Reserve Bank of India, and Rekha Gupta, who is Delhi's fourth female chief minister, both hail from the middle-class neighbourhood of Shalimar Bagh in North Delhi. The position of deputy governor of the central bank has been vacant since Michael Patra's term expired two and a half months ago, and economist Poonam Gupta was appointed to replace the vacancy by the late government. Her three-year appointment was announced on Monday, the night before next week's monetary policy meeting. In addition to her role as convenor of the Advisory Council to the 16th Finance Commission, she holds the positions of director general of the think tank National Council for Applied Economic Research (NCAER), a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and more. While advising Gupta for her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland, Arvind Panagariya oversaw her master's and doctoral studies at the Delhi School of Economics. Deepak Mishra, an economist and the head of the research organization ICRIER, is her husband.
