Divya Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez launched the TATA Aircraft Complex at the TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) Campus in Vadodara, marking a turning point for India's defense sector. This C-295 military transport aircraft production plant marks a milestone in India's defence self-reliance. The Indian Air Force will get 56 C-295 aircraft from Airbus, 16 of which will be delivered from Spain and 40 locally made under this joint venture. The TATA Aircraft Complex is a milestone in PM Modi's ambition for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, a self-sufficient India that can fulfill its own defense demands and become a global provider of modern military technologies. This effort shows the government's commitment to strengthening the defence sector by reducing foreign dependence, fostering indigenous production, and making India a global defence power. Over the past decade, India has grown from a defense importer to an exporter and global arms trader. India aims to sell Rs 35,000 crore in defense by 2025. India has invested heavily in modernising its defence facilities, increasing its defence budget. The budget increased from Rs 2.03 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 5.93 lakh crore in 2023-24, funding modern equipment, technology development, and defence manufacturing. This financial commitment helped India produce its highest-ever defence output of Rs 1.27 lakh crore in 2023-24, up from Rs 40,000 crore in 2013-14.
