Divya Delhi: The Karnataka government banned smokeless tobacco products in public on World No Tobacco Day to protect public health. State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao revised the COTPA Act to outlaw hookah and other smokeless tobacco products. The state government notified this today after the President acknowledged it. The state now bans smoking and vaping in public. Non-cigarette tobacco products were damaging to public health. Smoking and breathing tobacco in public can spread the infection.COVID-19 prevention proved difficult for the public. It also affected TB sufferers. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who attentively watched these issues, revised the COPTA Act to protect public health and got it passed by both chambers. As a key law, it required presidential assent. The President has approved this crucial state government step, and the state government notified today.
