The many accomplishments of women in society, the economy, culture, and politics are commemorated on International Women's Day. "Accelerate Action" is the slogan of the 2025 International Women's Day campaign. Its goal is to boost efforts to attain parity between the sexes.As a tribute to all women on this International Women's Day, we have compiled a list of influential Indian politicians who are also social change agents.A prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nirmala Sitharaman hails from India. Since 2019, she has been doing double duty as India's minister of finance and corporate affairs. She represents Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha. She was India's 28th defence minister from 2017 until 2019. The union budget has been presented eight times by Sitaraman. With this, she has presented more budgets than any other minister since Moraji Desai.Indian politician Sonia Gandhi was born in Italy. The Indian National Congress has never had a president who has served as long as she has. After her husband, the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, was assassinated seven years ago, she became the party leader in 1998. So far in her career, Sonia has served as the head of the advisory councils for right-based development and welfare programs like MGNREGA, the Right to Information Bill, and the Food Security Bill.One of India's most prominent politicians is Mamata Banerjee. Currently, she holds the position of chief minister in West Bengal. It was in 1998 that she established the All India Trinamool Congress. Mamata was the first woman to hold the position of minister of railways twice in her earlier career. She made a number of changes that improved health care and education in West Bengal.
