Divya Delhi: John called community canines popular and the highest court's ban 'impractical' and 'inhumane' He sought "compassion, science-based solutions, and compliance with Indian law" from the CJI to safeguard animals. On Tuesday, Bollywood actor John Abraham wrote to the Chief Justice of India to examine the Supreme Court's stray dog verdict. He urged Justice BR Gavai to contemplate sheltering Delhi's stray dogs. John called the Supreme Court's verdict ‘impractical’ and ‘inhumane’ because communal dogs are popular. “I hope you will agree that these are not ‘strays’ but community dogs – respected and loved by many, and very much Delhiites in their own right, having lived in the region as neighbours to humans for generations,” he wrote. Actor claimed order violates ABC Dog Rules 2023. Stray spayed and vaccinated pets should go home. Genuine Delhiites are dogs with 10 lakh communal pets. Housing or moving them all is inhumane, he said.Early this year, PETA India named John its first honorary director. He asked the CJI to study animal protection with “compassion, science-based solutions and compliance with Indian law”.All Delhi-NCR Stray Dogs Moved By SC
The Supreme Court ordered all Delhi-NCR stray canines to shelters on Monday to prevent child assaults. The bench ordered shelters to install CCTV cameras “to ensure that dogs are not released” and collect strays “from all localities, more particularly vulnerable localities and cities” in its hearing. Delhi Government, MCD, and NDMC must swiftly eliminate stray dogs.
