Divya Delhi: Modi strongly reacted to Trump's trade war threat against India. Modi said India is ready and would not compromise its farmers, fisherman, and dairy producers for anybody. At the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in Delhi, the Prime Minister declared, “Farmers are our top priority. India would never compromise with farmers, cattle, and fishers. I know this will cost me dearly, but I'm ready. In the interest of farmers, fishermen, and cattle, India is ready.” PM's statements follow US President Donald Trump's plan to raise tariffs on Indian exports, including agriculture, to 50%. India sends a range of agricultural goods to the US and is anticipated to pay Trump's tariffs. In trade discussions, the US has demanded more access to the Indian market for corn, soybeans, and cotton, according to a report. India has blocked US access to certain areas to safeguard its farmers. Trump issued an executive order Wednesday adding 25% tariffs to Indian goods. He added 25% ad valorem duty to the 25% reciprocal tariffs implemented on August 1 and hinted at much higher duties. It's just been eight hours... Much more is coming. There will be severe secondary sanctions, Trump said. Trump blamed national security, foreign policy, and trade rules for the surge, alleging that India's purchases of Russian oil represent a “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the US. PM paid tribute to MS Swaminathan, the Green Revolution's creator. The Prime Minister remarked, “Building on the legacy of food security, the next frontier for our agricultural scientists is ensuring nutritional security for all.”
