Divya Delhi: As India and Canada resume diplomatic relations, banned Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) threatens to “siege” the Indian Consulate in Vancouver  . The pro-Khalistan organization said it will take over the Indian embassy on Thursday and advised Indo-Canadians planning a normal visit to seek another date. The terror group produced a poster depicting Dinish Patnaik, the new Indian High Commissioner, as a target. The group claimed Indian consulates monitored Khalistanis via a spy network. Two years ago, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament that Indian spies were under investigated for assassinating Hardeep Singh Nijjar.“Two years on, Indian Consulates continue to run a spy network and surveillance targeting Khalistan Referendum campaigners,” it said. A Canadian government study acknowledged Khalistani terror groups. The investigation revealed that Canadian individuals and networks funded extreme Khalistani groups. This includes Babbar Khalsa International and the International SYF. The Canadian Criminal Code classifies both as terrorist organizations. According to the research, these extreme groups now largely operate through smaller groups of Khalistan supporters without ties to any organization. After meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mark Carney during Modi's June G7 summit in Canada, new high commissioners were appointed. A difficult relationship between the two countries has existed since . PM Justin Trudeau stated they have ‘credible proof’ linking Indian agents to the Surrey, British Columbia murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India called Trudeau's statements “absurd” and “motivated,” accusing Canada of allowing extremist and anti-Indian activities to flourish.June 18, 2023 saw Hardeep Singh Nijjar shot and killed outside a gurdwara.
