Divya Delhi: The Name Bharat train, part of the Tegional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), has begun experimental operations to Modipuram, the final Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut stop. The train crossed through Meerut's underground segment for the first time during Thursday's test run between Shatabdi Nagar and Modipuram, according to NCRTC authorities. According to the Times of India, NCRTC Chief Public Relations officer Puneet Vats said, “Until now, trials were conducted at both ends of the operational corridor—New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South to Shatabdi Nagar. Since trains now run over the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut route, this is a historic moment. According to NCRTC, the train system including tracks, platform screen doors (PSDs), and overhead power supply will be integrated. Several high-speed limit tests to attain 180 kmph design speed will begin in the next days. Meerut Metro South–Central trial operations continue. A local Indian metro system was the first to operate alongside a regional transit network. The 23-km Meerut Metro route has 18 km elevated and 5 km underground parts, supported by thirteen underground stations at three locations. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is India's first corridor under this project structure and a collaboration between central authorities, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, who hold 12.5% each. This Rs 30,270 crore project will connect Delhi and Meerut in 50 minutes. The line has 24 stations and 70.5 km of elevated and 11.5 km of underground routes. Vats said the route will open in June 2025.
