Mukhtar Ansari passed away on Thursday night at a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, from cardiac arrest. He was taken in "an unconscious state" from the district jail to the Rani Durgavati Medical College Hospital in Banda, where he subsequently passed away. But according to Ansari's brother and son, the mobster was fed "slow poison" while he was inside. AIMIM chairman Asaduddin Owaisi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav were among the lawmakers who echoed the accusations of poisoning and called for an investigation. Mukhtar's younger son, Umar Ansari, was present at the Rani Durgavati Medical College for the post-mortem examination. In an MP-MLA court, Mukhtar Ansari was found guilty of killing BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and given a 10-year prison sentence. In a case involving the use of falsified paperwork to obtain a weapons license in 1990, he was found guilty on March 13, 2024, and given a life sentence.
