Divya Delhi: Mohammed Shami must pay Hasin Jahan and their daughter Rs 4 lakh per month in maintenance, according to the Calcutta High Court. The order comes amid the couple's heated court struggle. Hasin Jahan contested a 2023 district court order ordering Shami to pay Rs 50,000 per month to her and Rs 80,000 to their daughter. She petitioned the High Court, claiming the amount was insufficient. “Rs 1.5 lakh per month to the petitioner (wife) and Rs 2.5 lakh to the daughter is fair and reasonable to ensure their financial stability until the final verdict.” Shami can provide volunteer support for his daughter's education and other legitimate requirements beyond the court-mandated sum, the court added.Four years after their April 2014 wedding, Jahan filed a FIR at Jadavpur police station in March 2018. She said Shami and his family abused her physically and emotionally. Her lawsuit mentioned maltreatment of their daughter and Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Besides dowry harassment and match-fixing, she claimed that Shami had ceased supporting her and their daughter financially.
