Divya Delhi:  Belgrade protesters demanded an early election to terminate President Aleksandar Vucic's 12-year administration. The Serbian university students' demonstration for snap elections follows eight months of protests over a roof fall related to graft. Many riot-clad officers tried to contain the situation. At Slavija Square and nearby, protesters shouted “We want elections!” Riot police arrested scores of protesters after firing tear gas. After a refurbished concrete rail station roof collapsed in Novi Sad, killing 16, demonstrations began eight months earlier in November. Serbians protested nationwide, claiming infrastructure corruption and mismanagement caused the roof fall. The protests were led by students then. After the rally, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic resigned at the start of the year under duress, while President Vucic remained in office.
