Divya Delhi: Meta's memo says layoffs will happen in many countries except Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands owing to local laws. The corporation is hiring machine learning engineers, therefore layoffs have begun.Meta's head of people, Janelle Gale, said in a memo that staff in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands will be spared from layoffs due to local laws. However, employees in over a dozen other countries spanning Europe, Asia, and Africa will receive their alerts between February 11 and February 18, the memo noted, according to Reuters.Meta also said last month that they will fire 5% of the worst workers. This message was called performance termination. Meta is firing nearly 3,000 workers, claiming it raises performance standards and removes underperformers. per layoff.fyi. Meta  Mark Zuckerberg has warned that 2024 and 2025 will be tough for the firm.“Unlike previous large-scale layoffs, Meta planned to keep its offices open and would not issue additional updates regarding the decisions,” Gale said in her post. In a separate memo, the business also urged workers to support hiring for machine learning and other key engineering jobs.
