Divya Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar warned that some poisonous forces were trying to paint India in a "bad light" and asked for a "counter-attack" to stop them. India does not like human rights sermons, he added. At the National Human Rights Commission's foundation day festivities, he called Partition, Emergency, and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots traumatizing occurrences that "stand as sombre reminder of fragility of liberty". Dhankhar added "pernicious forces, that in a structured manner, seek to unfairly seek to taint us". He claimed these forces have a "sinister design" to criticize our human rights record in international forums. He added such forces must be neutralized and will be called "pratighat" or counter-attack in India. These powers have created indexes that rate everyone in the world to paint "our nation in bad color," the vice president added. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government provided free food to over 80 crore people regardless of caste or faith, he said.
