Divya Delhi: The Lieutenant Governor's administration has denied political parties, including the ruling National Conference (NC), permission to hold congregation prayers at the Khawaja Bazar graveyard on Martyrs' Day, July 13. This will be the Omar Abdullah government's first major confrontation with the administration. The Srinagar police posted on X, “The District Administration Srinagar has denied permission to all applicants intending to proceed towards Khawaja Bazar, Nowhatta on 13th July 2025 (Sunday).” Police asked the public to follow these guidelines, warning that noncompliance would result in legal action. This is the first Martyrs' Day under the newly elected National Conference government, which asked permission to visit the Nakshband Sahab Srinagar graveyard and reestablish July 13 as a public holiday. In 1931, 22 civilians died in protests against the Dogra rule in Kashmir. Martyrs' Day was a public holiday and state ceremony until Article 370 was repealed in 2019. Since then, the LG-led administration has eliminated this holiday and restricted political figures' graveyard access.
