Divya Delhi: The deadly political poison spreads through West Bengal's schools. From the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder to the Kolkata Law College rape, student politics under political sponsorship has eroded the rule of law. A young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was raped and murdered in a locked seminar room last year. The first-year Law College student was gang-raped on campus. Both accused apparently have Trinamool Congress ties. Monojit ‘Mango’ Mishra, the main accused in the Kolkata Law College rape, alleges on social media that he has managed the college section of Bengal's ruling party's student wing, Trinamool College Chhatra Parishad, since 2017. Trinamool denies it. Monojit—"Mango" to friends—held great power on campus, say classmates. He was feared by teachers and staff. He apparently had multiple harassment and molestation charges but seemed to have political immunity. The rape survivor claimed that "Mango" and Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed called her to the college union room around 7pm on June 25. Wait, classes end at 5pm, so why were the college gates open late? A campus security guard helped the accused. Once in the union room, Monojit requested the woman to "prove her loyalty" to the TMC student wing. She sensed trouble and left. But the three allegedly brought her to another room, raped her, took turns shooting recordings, and threatened her to be quiet.
