Divya Delhi:  Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) have underpinned India's public health system for over two decades. They connect rural communities to the government and provide grassroots healthcare, ensuring that even the most marginalized have access. ASHA personnel are among the most underpaid and overworked in the nation despite their vital role in public health. Kerala ASHA workers are fighting for dignity, recognition, and basic labor rights, not just increased wages. The movement is a feminist protest against the institutional devaluation of care work, which is mostly done by women and underpaid. Their battle shows the state's disregard of informal healthcare workers and governments' failure to enact equitable remuneration regulations for public health personnel. Kerala, known for its progressive administration and strong healthcare system, is under fire for its treatment of ASHA workers. Their demands are a test of the state's commitment to labor rights and a national necessity that requires immediate action from the state, central authorities, trade unions, and civil society.
