The Jammu and Kashmir government has invited bids for detailed project reports (DPRs) for an 11.60 km ropeway from Baltal to the Amarnath cave shrine to facilitate the annual Amarnath Yatra. This program is part of a larger yatra season strategy to increase pilgrim movement and accessibility. In a written response to the JK Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML) is also seeking DPRs for three more ropeway projects in Budgam and Ramban districts. This plan follows a Lieutenant Governor-led Administrative Council resolution and a September 6, 2023 government decree on ropeway development under Parvatmala.
