Indian Swiss bank deposits have fallen nearly 18% over the past decade: Swiss National Bank Data

Divya Delhi: The Swiss National Bank said that Indian deposits in Swiss banks have dropped 18% over the past decade. A decline from 425 million Swiss francs in 2015 to 346 million in 2024 was shown. SNB data showed that Indian deposits rose sharply during COVID-19, reaching a 10-year high of 602 million Swiss francs. The deposits began dropping after the epidemic peak. Deposits rose 37 million Swiss francs to 346 million in 2024 from 309 million in 2023. Despite this annual rise, the 10-year trend is down. The deposit decline is not specific to India. Several other big economies saw their citizens deposit less in Swiss banks. UK national deposits declined from 44 billion Swiss francs in 2015 to 31 billion in 2024. Over the same period, Chinese deposits fell from 5.01 billion Swiss francs to 4.3 billion. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh also saw declines, while Pakistani deposits in Swiss banks have plummeted over the past decade.Pakistani deposits plummeted 75% to 241 million Swiss francs by 2024 from 947 million in 2015. Bangladeshis followed a similar tendency. They lost nearly 73% of their Swiss bank savings from 48 million in 2015 to 12.6 million in 2024.
