Divya Delhi: The India-Russia S-400 missile contract has been updated in a new report. Air missile system negotiations are underway between and Moscow. TASS reported it, citing a top Russian defense export official. The claim emerged a day after PM Modi met Putin in Tianjin during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.“India already has our S-400 system,” Dmitry Shugayev, head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, told Reuters, citing TASS. “We can also expand our cooperation here. New deliveries. Currently, we are negotiating.” It added. India bought five S-400 Triumf missile squadrons from Russia for $5.43 billion in 2018. This cutting-edge air defense platform can engage several airborne threats at extended ranges. Three squadrons arrived. The Indian S-400 “Sudarshan Chakra” air defense system can identify and destroy missiles and drones. After Operation Sindoor, it stopped Pakistani drones. Delivery of S-400 systems has been repeatedly delayed. Reuters reports that Russia will provide India the final two units in 2026 and 2027. Last month, Russia's Deputy Chief of Mission in India, Roman Babushkin, stated India would receive the remaining S-400s by 2025–2026. He stated the last two unit contract is on track and delivery would be on schedule.
