Divya Delhi: Using IMF data, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam claimed that India has overtaken Japan as the fourth-largest economy. Subrahmanyam told a news conference at the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on ‘Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat 2047’ that India's economy is $4 trillion. He hoped to become the third-largest economy. “We are the fourth largest economy right now. This is not my data—we have a $4 trillion economy. This is IMF data. Japan is smaller than India. The only larger economies are the US, China, and Germany, and if we keep to what is planned and thought through, we will become the third largest in 2–3 years, said Subrahmanyam. Additionally, Union Minister Jitendra Singh was pleased that India became the fourth largest economy. He praised Prime Minister Modi and called this a big step toward Viksit Bharat. He posted on X, “India overtakes Japan, becomes 4th largest economy. Progress towards #ViksitBharat is swift and significant. I thank PM Modi for this.”
