Divya Delhi: MOPSW Sarbananda Sonowal launched cruise operations from India's largest cruise terminal, Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT). The Minister also opened the renovated Fire Memorial at Victoria Docks, Fort House at Ballard Estate, Evelyn House at Colaba, and the Sagar Upvan Garden. Also launched was the Green Port Initiative Shore to Ship Electric Supply. Under the Cruise Bharat Mission, the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) was built to global standards and will pioneer cruise tourism in India. The port comprises a built-up area of more than 4,15,000 square feet at Ballard Pier and is India’s largest world-class cruise terminal. The first two floors (G+1) have 72 check-in and immigration counters on 2,07,000 square feet. The other two stories (2+3) are commercial. The MICT can handle 1 million passengers per year, 10,000 per day. With an 11-meter draft and 300-meter ships, the terminal can accommodate five ships at once. The terminal can park around 300 automobiles at once. While launching cruise services from MICT, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Mumbai has a rich maritime history that is integral to our civilization. Its maritime industry has benefited the nation as a coastal hub. We should work toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of making India a global cruise center with its cutting-edge infrastructure.
