Divya Delhi : Upon arriving in Ukraine on Friday, six weeks after visiting Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that India will not take sides but function as a peace bridge. Modi joins a small group of world leaders invited by both countries during wartime.According to government sources, Modi's parting message indicated he will discuss the “peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict” with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and his Wednesday statement in Poland that “this is the not the era of war.”Last month, Zelenskyy criticized Modi's Moscow visit and his hug of "the world's most bloody criminal in Moscow," but now he welcomes him to Kyiv. The Indian PM is expected to tell Zelenskyy that “no solution can be found in the battlefield” as he did Putin in July. These twin travels to Russia and Ukraine precede the PM's highly anticipated September UN General Assembly visit to the US, which is essential for messaging and diplomatic posturing.Modi is visiting Ukraine after almost three decades, although he and Zelenskyy have met three times in the last three years: in June, in Apulia at the G7 Summit, in Hiroshima last year, and in Glasgow at COP in 2021. They have also spoken on the phone several times since 2020. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited India in March. Both sides have communicated.
