Divya Delhi: Amid mounting concerns over rising tariffs, Acting President Choi Sang-mok directed authorities to communicate with the United States more actively and express the government's stance on Washington's trade policies. At an economic affairs discussion with ministers and senior officials, Choi stated, "We must actively engage with the new US administration to effectively convey our stance and explore ways for cooperation." The Donald Trump administration, which has been escalating tariff measures against significant trading partners, has been raising concerns about the lack of contact between the South Korean government and the administration. Trump has already said that, as of March 12, all imports of steel and aluminum will be subject to a 25% tariff. Along with charges on cars, electronics, and other important goods, he is also thinking about imposing "reciprocal" tariffs on US imports. Choi also instructed staff to keep a careful eye on how major economies—such as China, Japan, and the European Union—are responding to the most recent trade policies of the Trump administration.
