Divya Delhi : Last night, Mumbai hosted the OTTPlay Awards 2025 with HT City. The event was packed with entertainment industry leaders celebrating OTT greatness. Director Imtiaz Ali was among those honored for their experimental choices. Imtiaz received Best Director for Netflix's Amar Singh Chamkila (2024)'s visual storytelling. Diljit Dosanjh portrayed the title role and Parineeti Chopra played his wife Amarjot Kaur in the film, which was a huge hit. The night was about Chamkila, but the crowd couldn't help but think about the director's most defining flicks, including Ranbir Kapoor's Rockstar (2011). Longtime friend and great lyricist Irshad Kamil and OTTPlay's Chief Business Officer Inderpreet Singh presented Imtiaz with the award. Since the two old friends who have worked with professionally were on stage, Imtiaz started his address with a cheeky reference to a popular Rockstar lyric: "Jo bhi main, kehna chahoon, barbaad kare, Irshad mere". Plus, Imtiaz referenced Rockstar's Nadaan Parinde throughout his speech. Interestingly, Irshad wrote both lyrics. As uplifting as it was, last night was about Amar Singh Chamkila, and Imtiaz wouldn't forget. He said, "Chamkila was precious to me. I felt closer to our country and people, and sometimes one has to reintegrate with the masses. Amar Singh Chamkila will always be crowned ".
