Divya Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, has risen more than 70 spots in just two years to take the 123rd spot globally in the QS World University Rankings for 2026, making it the top-ranked Indian university. India is the fourth most represented country, behind the United States (192 institutions), the United Kingdom (90 institutions), and Mainland China (72 institutions), with 54 years this year after eight new institutions were included to the study. India had more new universities added to its ranks this year than any other nation or territory. The two nations with the most improvement, Jordan and Azerbaijan, both gained six spots in the 2026 rankings. With a record 54 universities listed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the QS World University Rankings 2026 contain good news for Indian education. "There is excellent news for our education sector from the QS World University 2026 Rankings. For the benefit of India's youth, our government is dedicated to advancing research and innovation ecosystems," Modi stated. India has reached a new high in the rankings, according to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has also praised the nation's achievements.
