Divya Delhi: Due to social media campaigns and diplomatic concerns, Indian online travel businesses and tourists are canceling their trips to Turkey and Azerbaijan. The response follows these countries' controversial declarations and diplomatic support for Pakistan, especially in global venues involving Indian interests. EaseMyTrip, Cox &Kings, and ixigo have suspended Turkey and Azerbaijan holiday packages, tours, and flights. In response to Turkey's support for Pakistan, around 800 Jain Lotus Group members in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, have canceled their post-Diwali holiday plans to Turkey. Tour providers in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot report a reduction in demand and last-minute cancellations. The decision is a direct outcome of Indian citizens' boycott calls on social media platforms like X, where #BoycottTurkey and #BoycottAzerbaijan have trended. India has been a major tourism revenue source for Turkey. Over 3.3 lakh Indian tourists visited Turkey in 2024, making it a top outbound destination. Turkey earns most from Indian visitors through weddings, luxury travel, and spiritual trips.
