Divya Delhi: The Supreme Court's order to vaccinate and release stray dogs in their original location has sparked a discussion on how to control them, as they wander freely, biting and murdering little children and seniors. Dog lovers cheered the Supreme Court judgment, but those who have handled the public interest issue in the past are appalled by the verdict, which may not solve the wild stray dog problem. If former Union Minister and BJP leader Vijay Goel criticized the order, he said the court and dog lovers would be accountable if a stray dog bites someone. Delhi has 10 lakh stray dogs, and prior city managers called the ban "ridiculous."“Nowhere in the world you will find stray dogs roaming around in the street and residential areas, biting and killing small children and senior citizens,” said Andhra Pradesh career bureaucrat DK Panwar. In 1997, as Municipal Commissioner, Hyderabad, he declared he solved the stray dog problem that was attacking children and seniors by obeying the Municipal Corporation Act. He stated the Act required municipal authorities to pick up and shelter all these stray canines for a week. Anyone who claims a dog as their pet can be released after paying for feeding the dog and promising to keep it indoors and on a leash when outside. “If no one claims these dogs for a week, the Act allows authorities to kill them. In one month, Hyderabad solved its dog bite and stray dog problem by following the Act, he claimed.
