Divya Delhi: Few know that a "wrong turn" started the First World War. This seems overdone, yet it's true. After occupying Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Austro-Hungarian Empire desired Serbia. Many Slavics lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Naturally, both nations sympathized. Serbians opposed joining the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Slavic people wanted to unite into "Greater Serbia" or "Yugoslavia." Merging Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia would have created the desired nation. If not for the massive Russian Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire would have captured Serbia long ago. Austro-Hungary joined with Germany to reduce anxiety. The Russian Empire also allied with France. Tensions rose and war loomed globally. Meanwhile, the terrorist Black Hand of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia began secretly fighting for independence. This group included 19-year-old Gavrilo Princip.
