Hamas Operative Among Five Al Jazeera Journalists Killed in Israeli Strike in Gaza

Divya Delhi: A statement on X by the Israeli military confirmed the execution of al-Sharif, stating that he was head of a Hamas terrorist cell and had launched advanced rocket strikes on Israeli citizens and IDF personnel. A targeted Israeli strike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza on Sunday killed at least five Al Jazeera journalists. In one of the deadliest attacks on media personnel since the Israel-Gaza conflict, two Al Jazeera correspondents, Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, camera operators Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa died. The Israeli military confirmed the hit on X, stating that al-Sharif was the commander of a Hamas terrorist cell and had launched advanced rocket strikes on Israeli civilians and IDF forces. Using the guise of an Al Jazeera journalist, Hamas terrorist Anas Al-Sharif led a cell that launched rocket strikes against Israeli civilians and IDF troops. According to Gaza rosters, terrorist training lists, and salary records, he was a Hamas agent incorporated into Al Jazeera, the IDF wrote. The IDF claimed that rosters, terrorist training lists, and Gaza salary records revealed Anas al-Sharif was a Hamas operator in Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera called the executions “another blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom.” According to the network, “this attack comes amid the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, which has seen the relentless slaughter of civilians, forced starvation, and the obliteration of entire communities. According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), at least 186 journalists have been killed since October, 2023. Al Jazeera said that the incident came hours after Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu informed international media he had ordered the military to allow more foreign journalists into Gaza.
