Critics view this action as an attempt by the Netanyahu administration to control the judiciary. Miara, the attorney general, has been charged by the government of undermining them. The government claims that Baharav-Miara's "inappropriate behavior" and "substantial differences" obstruct efficient governance. Due to a conflict of interest from his corruption trial, Netanyahu was not allowed to attend the conference. Israel's Justice Minister Yariv Levin presided over the meeting. In contrast, Baharav-Miara submitted a note and skipped the government meeting. "The move must be understood as it is; the proposal seeks to promote loyalty to the political echelon rather than trust," she wrote in her letter. It went on to say: "Even in the most delicate situations, such as during emergencies, anti-government protests, and election seasons, the government aims to be above the law and to act without checks and balances."
