Divya Delhi : On Tuesday afternoon (August 5, 2025), severe rain caused flash floods on the Kheer Ganga river in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, killing four and threatening others. Dharali town, 8,600 feet above sea level, was devastated by powerful waves that engulfed hotels and residences. Residents captured film of the flooding. Residents shouted to friends to flee. The tourist town's market was swept away in minutes, leaving it a sludge-filled river bed. At least 25 hotels, guesthouses, and dwellings were damaged. The local government estimates 60–70 individuals missing or trapped. The Indian Army has sent 150 men, commanded by Colonel Harshvardhan, Commanding Officer of 14 RAJRIF, to rescue and aid victims of a mudslide in Harsil, Uttarkashi. Beginning Tuesday, army tracking dogs, drones, and earthmoving equipment have been used for evacuation and supply.
