Divya Delhi: A gang that scammed hundreds of individuals throughout India of Rs 190 crore in the name of ‘investment’ was arrested by Uttarakhand police in Pauri. The police apprehended five suspects, including their Uttarakhand chief. According to Pauri Senior Superintendent of Police, the gang founded LUCC, a fictitious cooperative society, and lured hundreds of Uttarakhand residents from Dehradun, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, and Tehri to invest in gold coins, an oil refinery, and international investments. The gang has defrauded numerous states of around Rs 1,89 crore using this phony firm.Police found that this gang was defrauding people on a big scale. Sameer Agarwal, a Mumbai native, founded SAGA in 2016 and organized six cooperative organizations with branches in several states. Police said Agarwal fled to Dubai when the crime was discovered. The case is under investigation by Pauri police. On Sunday, Indian cyber-security agency CERT-In listed more than a dozen ways fraudsters are using internet schemes, including “digital arrest” to steal money and personal data.CERT-In advised that “digital arrest” is a hoax because “government agencies do not use platforms like WhatsApp or Skype for official communication”. It advised calling the agency to verify their identity. Cybercriminals exploit fear and hurry to deceive victims, therefore victims should not panic, according to the advise. Relax and examine the situation before replying. According to CERT-In, never give out personal or financial information over the phone or video calls, especially to unknown numbers. It advised against paying money “under pressure” since real law enforcement officials “will never pressure you into sending money immediately”.
