Divya Delhi:   The Tamil Nadu government opposed the PM SHRI initiative in the National Education Policy (NEP), but Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan defended the government's position during the political struggle in Parliament. Pradhan said outside Parliament, “Recently, the Government of India had a discussion with the Tamil Nadu government. This provided a compromise. PM SHRI allotment is fine if the Tamil Nadu government agrees. PM SHRI schools in Tamil Nadu would teach only in Tamil. What is your Tamil Nadu government opposition? This confuses me.” He clarified that Punjab, Karnataka, and Maharashtra are implementing PM SHRI and NEP, and the central government is not enforcing any linguistic policy. No one is forcing any language on anyone... Just politics.”DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran denied Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's allegation that Tamil Nadu has signed the NEP.Ran said the DMK has never supported the NEP or its three-language policy, which has created criticism in Tamil Nadu. Dharmendra Pradhan lied by suggesting DMK has agreed to sign NEP, Maran said. DMK never agreed to NEP or 3-language policy; we only said we couldn't. Why should Tamil Nadu students learn 3 languages and North Indian students one?He reiterated that Tamil Nadu's language position was only against the imposition of three languages, not Hindi. No offense to Hindi. Maran noted that students can study Hindi, but it should not be required. After Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called DMK MPs, the Tamil Nadu government, and the people of Tamil Nadu “uncivilised” in Parliament, Kanimozhi strongly disapproved. Kanimozhi said in her Lok Sabha address, “I am very pained and hurt that the minister in his reply in the parliament (Dharmendra Pradhan) has called the members of Parliament, the Tamil Nadu Government, and the people of Tamil Nadu uncivilised.” In Lok Sabha, Pradhan accused the DMK of being “dishonest” and playing “politics” with Tamil Nadu students' futures. “DMK is dishonest. The Tamil Nadu pupils are not their priority. Their actions are destroying Tamil Nadu students' futures. Only raising language hurdles is their duty. Practicing politics. They're causing trouble. Undemocratic and barbaric,”
