Divya Delhi: A Delta Airlines plane crashed during landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport  , injuring at least 18 passengers. The plane flipped over in the snow and caught fire. Briefing the media, Toronto Pearson Fire Chief Todd Aitken indicated that they commenced fire suppression as they arrived at the scene. No formal cause has been given yet. Toronto Pearson International Airport said it expected a "busy day" with over 130,000 passengers on 1,000 flights. The recent snowstorm made things difficult, adding 22 cm of snow at the airport over the weekend. The airport posted on X, "The snow has stopped, but cold temps and high winds are coming." Today, we’re expecting a busy day in our terminals with over 130,000 people on board over 1,000 aircraft. Airlines are recovering from this weekend's snowfall that deposited 22 cm of snow at the airport. Toronto Pearson Fire Chief Todd Aitken said the inquiry is still in its early stages, but the runway was dry and there were no crosswinds. He said it would be inappropriate to discuss the crash's cause while the investigation is continuing. After the incident, Toronto airport's president and CEO Deborah Flint spoke to the press. She thanked the first responders for arriving "within minutes" and underlined that no one died in the crash. "We care deeply for the crew and passengers." Some have reunited with family and friends, Flint said. She said the inquiry is ongoing and some airport runways may be blocked. She also said that more flight delays and cancellations are expected soon.
