Delhi-Dehradun Expressway update: Key section opens for travelers - find all the details here

Divya Delhi: This is an important news for those travelling frequently between Delhi and Dehradun. In a major development for commuters, a 3.4 km stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been opened to the public, promising a smoother and faster journey. The expressway, which is currently under construction, aims to reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from 6-7 hours to just 2.5-3 hours once fully operational. Previously, only three lanes were accessible, but now all six lanes on this newly opened section are available for use.The 212 km-long expressway, built in four phases, is set to provide a seamless connection between Delhi and Dehradun. Beginning in Delhi, the route passes through Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, and Mandola in Khekra, before entering Uttar Pradesh, covering Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur, and finally reaching Dehradun in Uttarakhand. It also links with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, further enhancing interstate connectivity. One of the best parts is that pedestrian safety is also taken care of. Foot-over bridges will be constructed at all prime locations along the Delhi-Dehradun route, ensuring safe crossings without interrupting traffic flow. Along with this, the expressway includes two elevated sections, each 200 meters long, designed to improve connectivity and minimize travel disruptions. These measures are part of a broader effort to create a safer, more efficient route for both pedes ans and vehicles, enhancing overall transportation and accessibility along this busy corridor. Designed to boost travel efficiency, the expressway will significantly cut down commute time while stimulating economic development along its corridor. By integrating urban and rural regions, this project aims to strengthen regional connectivity and facilitate smooth transportation across multiple states.Once completed, the expressway will significantly improve travel efficiency, making it the fastest and most convenient route between Delhi and Dehradun. However, as of now, only a small 3.4 km section has been opened, with the remaining stretches still under construction. A key advantage for commuters is that the first 18 km of the expressway, from Akshardham Temple to Loni in Ghaziabad, will remain toll-free. Unlike conventional toll plazas, the expressway is expected to use an automated scanning system to deduct toll charges based on the distance traveled. However, official details on toll fees have not yet been announced.
