Divya Delhi: SR-level border talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are scheduled for later this month with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The scheduling follows recent encouraging measures by India and China to enhance relations. Wang Yi met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1. More than 20 nations and 10 organizations will attend. China has confirmed PM Modi's presence, but the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has not commented. On the border, both countries have decided to disengage and resume patrolling in the Depsang Plains and Demchok areas of the LAC to reduce tensions. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes, fostering cultural and people-to-people links. After five years, India and China resumed tourist visas and trade, including fuel shipments to China after three years. Despite disagreements, both countries collaborate in BRICS, SCO, and G20. PM Modi and Xi last met at the BRICS Summit in Russia in October 2024, where they hailed enhanced border patrolling arrangements and agreed to advance SR-level talks for a fair and mutually acceptable boundary resolution.
