Deepak Hooda Charged With Dowry Harassment

Divya Delhi:  Hisar police have charged BJP leader and former Indian kabaddi captain Deepak Niwas Hooda and his sister Poonam with dowry harassment. Saweety Boora, Deepak's wife and world champion boxer, filed the case. The police charged them with causing hurt, criminal breach of trust, criminal intimidation, and cruelty by husband or family under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In her allegation to Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan, Saweety described constant assault since marrying Deepak. She said Poonam demanded a Fortuner  as dowry four days before the wedding instead of the Creta car the family had agreed to give. To meet the demand, Saweety's father contributed ₹11.59 lakh and secured a car loan. Saweety claims Deepak began abusing her immediately after they married, while Poonam criticized her for not giving enough dowry. Saweety said Deepak coerced her into collecting ₹1 crore for his failed 2024 BJP run for the Meham assembly seat. She further said that Deepak pressured her to quit boxing and do housework. She further accused Deepak of verbally abusing her when she asked him why he left home every other day and returned after 5-6 days.Even though Saweety's family tried everything, the marriage was doomed. With no other choice, Saweety filed for divorce in Hisar  In her appeal, she requests ₹50 lakh alimony and ₹1.5 lakh monthly support. Deepak counter-complained to Rohtak Narendra Bijarniya said Saweety's family took large sums from him before the wedding. According to Deepak, Saweety's father received ₹25 lakh, her brother accepted ₹12 lakh, and her sister accepted ₹9 lakh. Further, Deepak claimed Saweety accepted ₹17 lakh before the wedding. He claims Saweety stabbed him as he slept, but her family didn't believe him.After he rejected her money from a political campaign loan, Deepak accused Saweety for threatening to damage his political career and falsely implicate him. Despite his funding, Saweety quit fighting after winning the high-ranking Arjuna award, he said.
