Divya Delhi: Daily-wage workers should expect good days as the PM Narendra Modi-led government presents its budget. In a recent meeting hosted by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, daily wage workers demanded double MGNREGA workdays and a minimum salary hike. This important development may be incorporated in the July budget. On Monday, June 24, many business and labor organizations met with the Finance Minister before the budget to make demands.Given the rising cost of living, the organizations sought a minimum salary increase from Rs 15,000 to Rs 26,000. The organizations also wanted the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to rise from 100 to 200 workdays per year, giving daily wage laborers additional possibilities to make a living. They also sought regularization of Anganwadi, ASHA, and para-teacher workers. They also wanted permanent positions and a pension to help workers retire. Additionally, the organizations requested increased money for central government schemes. The organizations also asked MSP for all crops and Dr. MS Swaminathan panel proposals to stabilize farmers' economies. The labor organizations also asked the government to create a farmer social security fund with a Rs 9,000 monthly stipend.
