Divya Delhi:The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has fined Rapido ₹10 lakh for fraudulent and misleading advertising. The company's ads, which promised "Auto in 5 minutes or Get ₹50" and "Guaranteed Auto," were found to be inaccurate The CCPA found that the disclaimers for these offers were in tiny, unreadable fonts and that the ₹50 compensation was not cash but "Rapido coins" that expired quickly. Additionally, while the company advertised the "guarantee," its terms and conditions shifted responsibility to individual drivers, a tactic the authority found to be an attempt to evade accountability. The CCPA has ordered Rapido to stop this fraudulent advertising and reimburse customers who were not compensated as promised. The CCPA's decision follows a significant increase in complaints against Rapido on the National Consumer Helpline. The complaints, which jumped from 575 to 1,224 recently, involved issues like service failures, non-refunds, and overcharging. The CCPA advises consumers to be cautious of "guaranteed" or "assured" ads without clearly stated conditions and to file complaints through the National Consumer Helpline.
